Four Seasons in one afternoon
A snowman melts, wasps chase a sandwich, a cow does a poop and Newby the sheepdog wins the trials. How can all this happen in just one afternoon?

We begin in Winter, where frost crunches underfoot, icy winds blow, and snow is softly falling all around. Much of nature seems to be asleep. But somewhere, preparations for something truly wonderful are underway. Join our…

It’s always nice to be thanked, so to get this from Wiveliscombe Town Council was special.

Help! I think I’m a Nationalist (say it softly)
Well he (Seamus Carey) came. He saw Wivey Explorer Scouts putting out the chairs. He even played his Cornish bagpipe. Event number three at the Town Hall with another full house, taking our seats not knowing exactly what to expect of the advertised “controversial sell out comedy show about identity, second homes, xenophobia and (aforementioned) bagpipes.” Was it a pure challenging and entertaining act or just an interactive lesson/workshop (with scones, cream and jam) in exactly what makes the Cornish people wince and…

A Vampire Visited Upon Wiveliscombe
A horror film is not the standard Sunday afternoon matinée, but neither is it typical to have the composer of the musical score perform live for the audience. Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror is a silent film first screened in 1922. Adapting the story of Dracula, but without the permission of Bram Stoker’s heirs, all copies of the film were meant to be destroyed after court rulings for copyright infringement. But a few prints were saved and the film is…

We Scaled A Mountain
Last night saw our Town Hall properly open its doors for the first time in over 50 years. And what a night it was. Mountain Music, performed by the phenomenally talented Little Bulb Theatre, tells the story of European settlers setting out to find a new life on foreign shores, taking their musical traditions with them. There their songs and melodies merge with the musical styles of the Cherokee and the African slaves to become the music of Apalachian Mountains…

Help! I think I’m a Nationalist
Thursday 26th October, 2023. Doors open: 6:30pm, start time: 7:30pm Cornwall is at a tipping point. House prices soar, the population shifts, tensions rise. Some people see it as a separate nation, whilst others see it as a prime holiday destination and playground for the rich. Seamas Carey is confused. He is desperately trying to understand. He’s watched a wave of gentrification sweep through his rural hometown. There’s nowhere to live, yet second homes stand empty. He wishes Cornwall was…

Nosferatu – a symphony of horrors!
Sunday 22nd October, 2023. 4pm. Doors open 3:30pm Nosferatu (1922) is arguably the film that gave birth to the horror genre. Notable as the first cinematic interpretation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula, its combination of expressionistic acting and unforgettable images render it just as powerful and unsettling today as when it first thrilled cinema goers 100 years ago. Chris Green’s new score was commissioned by English Heritage for a live outdoor screening of the film at Dracula’s spiritual home of Whitby…

Mountain Music is Sold Out
To avoid any wasted journeys on Friday 20th October, Mountain Music has completely sold out. I think I’m a Nationalist. Details can be found at www.shambles.org.uk
